Residents in southwest Sydney’s Edmondson Park are being told to stay indoors due to a bushfire that’s threatening their homes.

The fire broke out in Horningsea Park at around 2pm on Wednesday.

NSW Rural Fire Service then issued an emergency warning for people in the Jardine Drive and Talana Hill Drive areas.

The emergency warning stated that the fire was threatening properties in the areas of Talana Hill Drive, Jardine Drive, and Edmondson Park.

It also warned that embers could reach homes before the main fire front.

More than 80 firefighters responded to the incident.

They were assisted by waterbombing aircraft.

The NSW RFS suggested that people stay inside a sturdy structure if the fire approaches their area.

It stated that they should shelter in a room away from the fire and leave the house using a clear exit.

If they see sparks from the fire, they should also turn on the sprinklers and monitor both themselves and the outside.

The fire has closed Bringelly Road and Camden Valley Way at the intersection of Talana Hill Drive and at the direction of Edmondson Park.

People who live in the areas affected by the fire have been asked to avoid the area and follow the emergency services’ directions if they are already there.

Due to the incident, some trains were stopped between Leppington and Glenfield.

The fire also closed Bringelly and Camden Valley Way in both directions near the intersection of Skyline Crescent and Talanna Hill Drive.

People who live in the areas affected by the fire have been asked to avoid the area and follow the emergency services’ directions if they are already there.
