On Friday, 41-year-old Edwina Bartholomew revealed on the Seven Network’s Sunrise program that she had been diagnosed with leukemia.
She tearfully told viewers about her condition during the program’s 8 am news segment.
She said she was surprised to learn that she had cancer. But, she added that it was a good kind of cancer.
She noted that her leukemia was categorized as chronic myeloid leukemia.
It could be treated with a daily pill. She said that if she could take care of herself, she would be fine.
Bartholomew said she decided to go public with her illness for various reasons.
One of these is due to how her family has supported her throughout her illness.
It felt appropriate to share this with all of you, as many of you have faced similar challenges.
Bartholomew assured her viewers that she was prepared to fight her illness and emerge from it stronger.
She paused several times to collect herself as she talked about her plan to continue living her life as normal as possible.
For one, I want to tell you that, as I turned 40, I made it a point to prioritize my health.
After learning about Nat’s scare, I had a skin check. I also had a mammogram and an eye exam.
But, my doctor ordered me to get blood tests at once.
She noted that one of the blood tests came back with unexpected results. Bartholomew said that prior to the test, she had no symptoms.
She expressed her positive attitude and said that she was lucky to have a good prognosis.
The Sunrise team, which included her co-hosts, held a group hug following her emotional segment.
