Sydney taxi drivers will go on strike tomorrow in response to the airport allowing Uber to pick up passengers on the kerbside.
According to the drivers’ private Facebook groups, they will not be picking up people from the international terminal.
In a post on Facebook, the drivers stated that they would lose a few fares as a result of the airport’s decision to allow Uber to operate in the terminal.
They then urged the public to support them and preserve the rights of taxi drivers to be the only rank and hail service.
The drivers also stated that they believe in the Rule of Law, and they should be able to show the airport and the NSW Government that they do.
According to the law, ride-sharing services such as Uber cannot operate in areas that are road-related.
Sydney Airport claimed that it had no idea if the strike would affect a large or small scale, and it could potentially lead to chaos.
The TWU claimed that some Uber drivers planned to participate in the strike in solidarity with taxi drivers.
