An Australian tourist who was supposed to be saving a German man from drowning on a beach in Bali died after he got swept away in the sea.
Craig Laidley, from Perth, was on Balian Beach when he heard the man calling for help at around 4:30 pm.
He immediately went to the man’s aid and saved him from the rough waves.
Unfortunately, Mr. Laidley never made it back on to the beach.
His body was discovered on a beach about a kilometer away from where he got pulled into the sea on Friday.
Kadek Adi, the head of the local search and rescue agency, confirmed that the victim was found dead.
Laidley, who reportedly lived in Bali, was last seen floating away to the ocean. A search and rescue team was deployed by the local agency to look for him on the beach and in the sea.
Nyoman Sidakarya, the head of the agency, said that his team had been conducting land-based searches on Wednesday night.
Using rubber boats, the rescuers were able to search an area about 10 kilometers from where Laidley disappeared. They also conducted land-based searches and looked for him along the coastline.
The police, on the other hand, were interviewing witnesses as part of their investigation.
The nephew of Laidley posted a message on Facebook to ask the public to help in the search for his uncle.
A witness, Wayan Sudarma, also said that there were no warning signs posted along the beach.
