Gary Criddle, who used to be a pilot for Qantas, was one of the three people who died when a Jabiru and a Cessna collided over Sydney’s southwest on Saturday morning.
A thorough investigation will be carried out by the ATSB.
Investigators from the ATSB will spend the next couple of days examining the wreckage of the two aircraft.
They will also try to recover any vital components that they can examine at the agency’s facilities in Canberra.
They will also try to interview witnesses and other individuals who may have information about the incident.
They will look into the data collected from flight tracking and air traffic control, as well as the maintenance records of the aircraft.
