According to reports, Australian mixed martial arts fighter Jayson Tonkin is currently in a coma after a man died in a hotel room. He was found next to the body of his dead relative.
The police stated that they found drugs such as ketamine and marijuana on the fourth-floor table of the hotel.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, when the staff of the establishment heard a commotion in Tonkin’s room. It was reportedly caused by his state of intoxication.
Initially, it was reported that the man who died was Tonkin, but it was later reported that it was another individual.
The Daily Mail Australia claimed that the man who died was Tonkin’s relative. He was reportedly shirtless when he died.
According to local media, the hotel’s staff discovered the man’s friend, who was panicking and yelling about why his friend was still lying.
The authorities then transported him to a nearby hospital. The Daily Mail Australia reported that it is not clear when Tonkin will wake up from his coma.
The local police stated that they will interrogate the dead man’s friend once he is conscious. Tonkin, who is known as “The Dingo,” was in Thailand to fight for the WBC Muay Thai middleweight title against Tengnueng Sitjamaesairoong.
The match was eventually called off due to the heavy rains that affected the region.
In an Instagram post, Tonkin said that he was not allowed to reside in Thailand due to his drug use and mental health issues
It is now possible for him to be charged with possession or consumption of a substance that is categorized as a schedule 2 drug, which carries a penalty of up to five years in jail in the country.
