According to reports, four of their friends died after a Tesla Model S broke its electronic doors following an accident. The car then caught on fire after hitting a guard rail.
Only one female passenger was able to escape the burning vehicle.
Ketaba Gohil, her brother, Jay Sisodiya, and Digvijay Patel were killed.
Rick Harper, a Post employee, said he tried to save a woman who was trapped inside the burning vehicle.
He noted that the Model Y’s doors were too hard to open. He said the young woman was most likely trying to escape from the interior.
The incident reportedly happened when the car hit a guard rail at a high speed on Lake Shore Boulevard. The cause is under investigation.
Tesla cars have electronic doors that require power to open. These doors have buttons that the passengers and driver can push to open.
But, if the power fails, these buttons can be rendered inoperable. Randy Schmitz of the Calgary Fire Department said that this could happen during an accident.
The Model Y, which is the model involved in the incident, has a manual override button. However, experts said it can be hard to find in high-stress scenarios.
The NHTSA is currently investigating nine incidents involving the Model Y.
Some of these include sudden acceleration and unexpected brake activation.

Garbage story. I’ve worked in Accident Rescue for 30 years. Front impact into anything pushes the quarter panels back into the doors jamming them. Why do you think we have all of those hydraulic tools to get them out? Spreaders and cutters to open doors, take out the door pillars and the roof off. Why? because they are jammed tight. Compressed.
