A 39-year-old man who reportedly went to the Planet Fitness gym in Indianapolis and never returned home was found dead in one of the tanning beds.
According to his family, Derek went to the facility on Friday and never came back. His aunt said that he was wearing a monitor, which helped authorities track his movements.
He was discovered in the tanning bed by staff members on Monday morning. Court records show that Sink was charged with various drug-related offenses in the past.
In a plea agreement, he was ordered to spend a year in home detention, which included drug testing.
It’s not clear how Sink was able to go unnoticed for a long time.
The coroner’s office has not yet ruled on the cause of death, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is conducting an investigation.
Elizabeth, a gymgoer, was at the Planet Fitness facility when the police found Sink.
According to Elizabeth, she and other members of the gym noticed a foul smell inside the facility. She also noted that the tanning beds were closed for a couple of days.
In response to the incident, McCall Gosselin, a corporate affairs officer for Planet Fitness, stated that the company is deeply saddened by the loss of one of its members.
The company has procedures in place to ensure the safety of its members.
