A photo of a dog that appeared to be a Staffy sitting inside a grocery trolley has caused a debate among shoppers. The animal was seen in a Brisbane Coles on Sunday.
The person who took the photo posted it on Reddit, where it was referred to as a “good boof.”
Many of the commenters who criticized the photo argued that it was unhygienic to allow pets inside a grocery store.
A spokesperson for Coles responded to the controversy by saying that the company does not allow animals or pets in its establishments.
According to the company, companion and assistance animals are allowed to accompany their owners inside its stores if they are identified by their collar, harness, or coat.
However, one user noted that the actions of this individual could cause people with such animals to be harassed.
According to them, people with assistance dogs are often asked to leave stores when they bring their untrained companions inside.
Some users blamed Bunnings for setting a precedent by allowing pets in its stores, though others noted that this was not the case.
Others said that they were not worried about the situation, as there were bigger issues to be concerned about.
A staff member at a supermarket stated that dogs were probably the least of their concerns, as trolleys are regularly filled with dirty tissues, needles, and diapers.
