If you’re living in the southeastern parts of Australia, get ready to sweat! A intense heatwave is headed your way, with temperatures expected to soar up to 15C above the November average.
Meanwhile, the northern and western parts of the country are bracing for severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and flash flooding.
Heatwave Warning Issued for Southeastern States
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a heatwave warning for residents across South Australia, central and southern New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania. According to Meteorologist Helen Reid, “The spell of hot weather is expected to impact large parts of these regions over the coming days.”
Temperatures to Reach Mid-30s This Weekend
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-30s across certain parts of the country through the rest of the week and into the weekend. While we’ve seen short bursts of hot weather followed by cooler conditions, this time around, residents can expect longer periods of hot days.
Heatwave to Last for Days
“This time around, most places will get three days of warm weather before milder conditions arrive,” said Ms. Reid. A heatwave warning has been issued for the East Gippsland region, with day and night temperatures exceeding the national average for this time of year.
Severe Heatwave Warnings in Place
Severe heatwave warnings are expected to come into place across the Snowy Mountains region of NSW and extend into the Illawarra district on Friday. Conditions are set to ease for residents in South Australia and Tasmania over the weekend, but the heat will stick around in Victoria and NSW until early next week.
