If you’re a Sum 41 fan in Australia, you’re probably feeling pretty gutted right now.
The Canadian rock band has just announced that they’re cancelling their entire Australian tour, due to Deryck Whibley’s latest bout of pneumonia.
The Final Tour Dates That Never Were
The band was set to perform at the Good Things festival in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, with their final-ever tour dates in Australia. But unfortunately, it seems like fate had other plans. In a statement on social media, the band shared their heartbreak with their fans.
A Heartfelt Apology from the Band
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed,” said the band. “We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 – December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more.”
The band went on to explain that Deryck’s health is the priority, and they can’t perform while he’s under the weather. “We understand and appreciate your disappointment – we’re gutted too,” they added.
The Show Must Go On (Without Sum 41)
While Sum 41 won’t be taking the stage, the Good Things Festival is still going ahead as planned. “The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible line-up of local and international acts,” said the band. “We can’t be there, but get along for us and have the best time.”
Ticket Refunds and a Blast from the Past
Ticket buyers for Sum 41’s sideshow will be receiving refund information from the ticketing agencies shortly. This isn’t the first time the band has had to cancel dates in Australia. Back in 2011, they missed their slot at the Soundwave music festival after Whibley was hospitalised with pneumonia.
Good Things Festival Organisers Send Well Wishes
Good Things festival organisers have also released a statement, confirming that the rest of the festival will still go ahead. “Sum 41 are gutted they can’t perform, and we fully understand and appreciate fans’ disappointment. Deryck’s health and wellbeing is the focus and priority though, and we hope you will join us in sending him well wishes for his recovery.”
The festival is set to feature headliner Korn, and organisers have promised to shuffle the timetable to ensure a great day for fans. Let’s send some love and well wishes to Deryck Whibley and hope he recovers soon!
