Former Formula 1 team owner and legendary podcaster Eddie Jordan has bravely opened up about his personal battle with bladder and prostate cancer, which also affected his pelvis and spine.
In a candid conversation on the Formula For Success podcast with David Coulthard, Jordan shared his story to emphasize the importance of addressing health concerns promptly and without hesitation.
Early Detection Saved My Life
Jordan, 76, first discovered his condition in March-April and credits early detection for his survival. He draws inspiration from Olympic cyclist-turned-racing driver Sir Chris Hoy, who recently announced a terminal prostate cancer diagnosis despite showing minimal outward symptoms. Jordan urges anyone hesitant about undergoing screening to prioritize their health and seek a diagnosis without delay.
Don’t Waste Time, Get Tested!
Jordan’s cancer was “aggressive,” but he believes that modern medicine can extend one’s lifetime. He encourages everyone to take control of their health, saying:
“Don’t waste or put it off. Go and get tested, because in life, you’ve got chances. And there is so much medical advice out there and so many things that you can do to extend your lifetime. Go and do it. Don’t be stupid. Don’t be shy. It’s not a shy thing. Look after your body, guys.”
Resilience and Strong Willpower Are Key
Two months ago, Jordan underwent testing after participating in a Cape Town cycle tour, where he noticed he wasn’t feeling “100%.” He emphasizes the importance of resilience, highlighting the value of strong willpower and encouraging all cancer survivors to “stand the fight.” He says:
“At 76 I did the Argus [Cape Town Cycle Tour, ed.], and then you get a bit of a bang, and then you suddenly feel that you’re not 100%. You go to the doctor, and then you get this illness. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, and I urge everybody to be able to stand the fight, because it’s worth it.”
A Message of Hope and Courage
Jordan’s message is one of hope and courage. Despite facing “very dark days,” he has emerged stronger and more determined. He says:
“I’m coming out the other side, everyone else should come out the other side. The prognosis is absolutely fantastic. The medical awareness of what’s going on at the moment is quite simply mind-boggling – and so there should be every opportunity to avail of that medical help.”
Eddie Jordan’s courageous battle with cancer serves as a stark reminder to prioritize our health and seek medical advice without hesitation. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire others to take control of their well-being and fight for their lives.
