A two-month-old baby, Antonia Siguenza, is currently fighting for her life at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide after being struck on the head with an iron pole during a violent home invasion in Alice Springs.
Her mother, Nicole, remains by her side, also injured in the attack.
A Mother’s Nightmare
On Wednesday, two teenagers allegedly stormed into the family’s property in the western suburbs of Alice Springs, leaving a trail of destruction and horror in their wake. The baby was airlifted to South Australia with a skull fracture and suffering from seizures.
Nicole, the mother, was also struck with an iron bar across the cheek, leaving her injured and shaken. The family has been left reeling from the attack, with the baby’s father, Marlon, remaining in Alice Springs to care for their four other children.
A Family in Crisis
Doctors have described Antonia’s condition as stable, but the family is taking it day by day, unsure of what the future holds. The little girl’s parents are doing everything they can to support their daughter, but they need help. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family during this difficult time.
As the family struggles to come to terms with the attack, they are also facing the uncertainty of the holiday season. “Christmas plays such a big part in the Siguenza’s lives, and we’re praying they can all be together soon,” reads the GoFundMe page.
The Violent Break-In
The terrifying incident occurred on Wednesday at around 2:30 pm on Bokhara St, in Larapinta. Two boys, aged 16 and 17, allegedly broke into the home, threatening and assaulting the mother with a blunt weapon. The woman was holding her baby at the time of the attack.
The thieves made off with the woman’s handbag and car keys before fleeing the scene on foot. Police were quick to respond, making two arrests shortly after the incident.
A Community Rallies Around
As the Siguenza family navigates this difficult time, they are grateful for the outpouring of support from their community. Donations, prayers, and messages of support have been flooding in, and the family is thankful for any help they can get.
