A devastating collision between a car and several cyclists in Armidale has left one cyclist dead, a driver fighting for their life, and three others injured.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and an investigation is now underway.
The Crash
Emergency services were called to Long Swamp Rd, near the intersection of Edwards Road, around 3:30 pm on Saturday. Witnesses reported that a car had collided with multiple cyclists before careening out of control and slamming into a tree. The scene was nothing short of chaotic, with debris scattered everywhere and people screaming for help.
A Life Lost
Tragically, one of the cyclists didn’t survive the ordeal. The victim, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene. Three other cyclists were injured, some seriously, and were treated by paramedics.
Critical Condition
The driver of the vehicle, a woman, was trapped inside the wreckage but was eventually freed by emergency services. She was rushed to the scene and treated for critical injuries. Her condition is still precarious, and she was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital along with one of the seriously injured cyclists.
Others Injured
Two other cyclists were taken to Armidale Hospital, but their conditions are unknown at this time. The full extent of their injuries is still being assessed.
