What Really Went Down
Australian broadcaster Erin Molan has finally spoken out about her sudden departure from Sky News, and it’s not what you might think.
The TV personality parted ways with the network last week after her weekly Friday night program was axed, but she’s not going down without a fight.
A Passionate Goodbye
In a heartfelt 9-minute video posted to Instagram over the weekend, Molan opened up about the axing of her show, saying it was “my passion, my purpose, and aside from my little girl, basically my entire existence.” But she’s not letting the setback get her down, declaring “I’m just getting started.”
The Real Reason Behind Her Exit
Molan’s former colleague, Sky News host Caroline Marcus, has also weighed in on the controversy, shutting down speculation that Molan was pushed out due to her Zionist views. Marcus, who is Jewish herself, called the suggestion a “lie” and praised the network’s efforts to combat anti-Semitism.
Setting the Record Straight
Marcus addressed the “troubling narrative” that had taken hold, saying “Anyone who watches Sky News Australia knows that couldn’t be further from the truth.” She credited the network with doing “important, fearless work” to combat anti-Semitism, and expressed her respect for Molan’s dedication to speaking out on issues that matter.
What’s Next for Erin Molan?
In her video statement, Molan revealed that she’s already received job offers from other networks, which would mean “fewer death threats, more stability, a simpler life.” But she’s not willing to compromise on her values, saying she remains committed to speaking out about issues close to her heart.
A Personal Tribute
Molan also took a moment to thank her late father, politician Jim Molan, for instilling in her a commitment to standing up for what’s right, even in the face of adversity. Her father, who passed away from cancer last year, taught her to stand up for what is right, always, despite the cost.
A Tough Year for Erin Molan
This news comes just months after Molan lost her high-profile radio gig with Sydney’s 104.1 2DayFM. The Hughesy, Ed and Erin breakfast show was axed in August after a dismal performance in the radio ratings, recording just a 3.6 per cent audience share.
