In a shocking turn of events, two separate shootings took place in southeast Queensland on Thursday morning, leaving one man injured and police scrambling to track down the perpetrators.
The Lockyer Valley Incident
Just before 6am, a 31-year-old man was shot in his upper body at a property in Lockyer Valley. The victim was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition. Police believe the shooter fled the scene shortly before officers arrived.
The Deagon Home Invasion
Only hours earlier, a firearm was discharged during a home invasion in Deagon, a suburb in Brisbane’s north. An unknown offender forced their way into a home on Edith Street after midnight, confronting the male and female occupants.
A Targeted Attack?
As police continued their investigation, they revealed that the Deagon incident was likely a targeted attack. The offender shot a glass door to gain access to the home, where they were confronted by the occupants. The offender then shot a chair, and the occupants fled to a neighboring home.
Nothing Stolen, But Property Damaged
Despite the break-in, police say nothing was stolen. However, the offenders disturbed several items in the home. The incident has left the community on high alert, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Hunt for the Gunmen
Police are now searching for two shooters involved in the separate incidents. In the Deagon incident, the offenders fled in a white Subaru Outback toward Rainbow Street, Sandgate. Detective Inspector John Mison appealed for information on the movements of the vehicle, saying, “Detectives will examine all avenues of inquiry, including ballistics testing, and all witness accounts to locate these offenders.”
Crime Scenes Established
Crime scenes have been set up at both properties, and police are asking anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage, particularly in relation to the vehicle, to come forward. As of midday Thursday, no arrests had been made.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any information that could aid the investigation. With two shooters still on the loose, every detail counts. If you have any information, don’t hesitate to contact the authorities.
