Police Hold ‘Serious Concerns’ for Child’s Welfare After Shocking Abduction
In a disturbing incident, an 8-year-old girl was taken from a Department of Child Safety facility on the Sunshine Coast, sparking a massive police investigation and an Amber Alert. The little girl was seen being led away by a man in a ute on Thursday morning, leaving police with grave concerns for her safety.
What We Know So Far
According to Detective Acting Inspector Scott Wiggins, the child was taken from the facility on Beach Rd in Maroochydore around 10:45 am. The man, known to the child, allegedly used force to take her away. Police believe the child may be at significant risk of harm based on intelligence and information provided by the Department of Child Safety.
The Search is On
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has described the vehicle used in the abduction as a dark blue Toyota Hilux with a silver tray, bearing the registration number 156VBO. The suspect, a Sunshine Coast resident in his 40s, is said to frequent the Noosa area. Police have so far been unable to contact him, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Child and Suspect Described
The 8-year-old girl has sandy blonde hair and was last seen wearing black and white chequered shorts, a navy blue shirt, and white sandals. The suspect is described as Caucasian, with a shaved head, slim build, and was wearing a dark shirt, black slides, and board shorts.
The Investigation
Significant police resources are being dedicated to finding the child, including the use of police helicopters. Detective Wiggins emphasized that the police are heavily reliant on tips and information from the public to aid in the investigation.
