A Senseless Act of Cruelty
In a shocking and disturbing incident, two Saxony breed ducks were found brutally killed on the grounds of Murrumburrah High School on Thursday, December 19. The ducks, which were owned by the school and secured in an enclosure, were subjected to a horrific act of cruelty that has left everyone in the community reeling.
A Timeline of Events
According to police, the incident is believed to have occurred between 6 pm on December 18 and 8:30 am on December 19. The school, located on Smith Street in Harden, reported the incident on social media, detailing the ducks’ tragic fate as being “tortured, mutilated, and killed”.
A Call to Action from Police
Hume Police District acting Inspector Mark Lake condemned the act, saying, “These animals have been subjected to a horrific act of cruelty. It is clear that the ducks were well cared for by the facility, and for someone to do this is beyond belief.” He urged anyone with information to come forward and help bring the perpetrators to justice.
Repeated Incidents of Vandalism
The school revealed that the duck deaths followed a series of incidents of damage to the school’s sprinkler system at night. It’s unclear whether the two incidents are related, but the school and police are taking the matter very seriously.
