Rachael Gunn, also known as Raygun, has finally put the drama surrounding the axed comedy show “Raygun: The Musical” to bed with a lengthy statement explaining what really went down.
The Original Plan: A Parody Musical
The show was set to debut in Sydney on December 7, but things took a surprising turn when Rachael’s lawyers stepped in and threatened legal action. The musical, written and starring Aussie comedian Steph Broadbridge, was meant to retell the story of Raygun’s Olympic journey, which had captured the hearts of many on social media.
The $10,000 Controversy
But then, things got messy. Anthony Skinner, owner of iD Comedy Club in Darlinghurst, leaked the terms of the legal letter he received, which included a demand for $10,000. The internet was quick to react, with many calling out Raygun for being “evil” and greedy.
Setting the Record Straight
However, Raygun has now spoken out to clear up the misunderstanding. In a lengthy video statement on Instagram, she explained that the $10,000 was never a demand for cash, but rather an estimate of potential legal costs if the case went to court.
Raygun’s Side of the Story
“I’m not going to lie, it’s been a wild ride,” Raygun began. “But I’m really pleased to say we’ve resolved everything. My team’s been working with Steph’s team, and we’ve managed to come to an agreement and resolved everything.”
Raygun went on to explain that the show will still go ahead, but under a new name, “Breaking The Musical”. She also apologized for any harm caused and thanked her supporters for standing by her.
A Lesson in Intellectual Property
At the heart of the drama was an intellectual property issue. Raygun’s lawyers were acting on her behalf to protect her rights, and the $10,000 figure was a precautionary measure. Fortunately, the issue was resolved without going to court.
Moving Forward
Raygun’s statement puts the controversy to rest, and it’s clear that she’s not interested in seeking any costs or causing harm to others. As she said, “It’s not about the money, and it is still not about the money.” With the drama behind her, Raygun can focus on her next move, and her fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
