If you think you’ve had a bad night, spare a thought for this 24-year-old P-plate driver from Buff Point, who managed to get himself into trouble not once, but TWICE in just four hours.
Drink Driving and Speeding: A Deadly Combo
At around 8 pm on Friday, police were conducting roadside testing on The Entrance Road, Bateau Bay, when our culprit allegedly returned a positive roadside test.
He was arrested and taken to The Entrance Police Station for a secondary test, which revealed a staggering reading of 0.149 – well into the high-range drink driving territory.
The poor guy was slapped with a field court attendance notice to appear at Wyong Local Court on Monday, January 6, 2024, for mid-range PCA, and his P2 licence was suspended on the spot.
But That Wasn’t the End of It…
Fast-forward to around 11:50 pm, when police were conducting stationary speed enforcement duties on the Pacific Motorway at Warnervale. That’s when they spotted our friend behind the wheel of a sedan, allegedly flying down the motorway at a whopping 200 km/h in a 110 km/h zone!
Police followed the sedan to Morisset, where they tried to pull him over, but our driver allegedly ignored them and sped away, reaching speeds of up to 150 km/h! The police pursuit was on, with the sedan eventually coming to a stop on the Pacific Motorway at Black Hill after road spikes were deployed.
The Second Time’s the Charm (Not Really)
The driver was arrested (again!) and taken to Toronto police station for another breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.162 – even higher than the first time!
This time, he was hit with four additional charges:
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (second offence)
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
- Drive with high-range PCA
And to top it all off, he was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
A Recipe for Disaster
It’s hard to fathom what was going through this young driver’s mind on Friday night. Drink driving and speeding are a deadly combination, and it’s lucky no one was injured or worse.
Let this be a warning to all: the police are out there, working tirelessly to keep our roads safe. And if you’re caught recklessly putting lives at risk, you’ll face the consequences.
Stay safe, and stay sober, folks!
