Reality TV star Jack Vidgen has bravely opened up about his devastating relapse, admitting he feels “a lot of shame” as he continues to battle addiction.
A Christmas in Rehab
The 27-year-old, who rose to fame at just 14 on Australia’s Got Talent in 2011, took to Instagram on Boxing Day to share an emotional video from a rehabilitation centre, where he spent Christmas. It was his fifth time in rehab.
“I’m Back in Rehab”
In the video, Jack revealed that he relapsed three weeks ago and had been struggling with withdrawals. “I know I’ve been MIA on socials for a few weeks, and that’s why,” he said. “I don’t have a whole lot to say, I feel a lot of shame and guilt, and I don’t really have the words right now.”

The Struggle is Real
In the caption, Jack expressed his disappointment and shame, but also his gratitude for being in a safe space. He encouraged his followers to “hold each other tightly and check in on those you think may be struggling” during the tough holiday season.
A Long Battle with Addiction
This isn’t Jack’s first time opening up about his addiction struggles. In October, he shared an update from rehab, where he’d been dealing with a five-week-long relapse. “I’m terrified of what people will think, what they’ll say or whisper to each other if I pass them by on the street,” he wrote.
What Triggered the Relapse?
Jack isn’t sure what triggered his latest relapse, but he thinks the loss of two loved ones took a toll on him. “I had almost four months of complete sobriety up, which is a lot for me… I think it was just a snowball effect. I had a close friend of 13 years pass away, my uncle got sick and ended up passing away as well.”
From TV Fame to Personal Struggles
After winning Australia’s Got Talent in 2011, Jack took some time out of the spotlight before returning in 2019 as a contestant on The Voice. He later appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2021. Despite his TV fame, Jack has been open about his personal struggles, and his bravery is an inspiration to many.
