A fun day out with friends and family by the river turned into a nightmare when an 18-year-old boy fell to his death from a rope swing on the northern Gold Coast.
The Incident Unfolds
Emergency services received a distress call around 6:40 pm on December 29 to attend to an incident near Riverbreeze Crescent on the Coomera River. When they arrived, they found the teenager had fallen approximately 15m down an embankment.
Despite receiving medical assistance, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene, likely due to severe spinal injuries.
A Tragic Accident
Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and it’s believed the teenager fell from a rope swing while enjoying a day out with his loved ones.
Acting Superintendent Jason Tuffley expressed his condolences, saying, “It’s very sad, especially since it occurred in front of family and friends. It would be a very tragic event to witness, and no one would want to see such a thing.”
A Warning for the Summer Months
Superintendent Tuffley urged people to be cautious while participating in outdoor activities during the summer months. “Take care with whatever outdoor activity you’re participating in,” he said. He also mentioned that it’s unclear whether alcohol was involved in the incident.
A report will be prepared for the coroner to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
