Hey Australia Day shoppers – guess what? Woolworths has had a change of heart and is bringing back those Aussie Day goodies we missed last year!
What’s Different This Time Around?
After last year’s dramatic decision to ditch Australia Day merchandise (remember those protests?), Woolies is doing a complete 180.
They’re rolling out a “Perfect for Australia Day” collection in both their supermarkets and Big W stores. Talk about a comeback!
What Can You Actually Buy?
Here’s what you’ll find in stores:
- Aussie-made flags (in stores)
- More merch options online
- Plenty of BBQ and party supplies
- Everything you need for the perfect Australia Day celebration
Why The Big Change?
Looks like Woolies got the message loud and clear! After last year’s backlash (including that boycott call from Peter Dutton), they’ve admitted that both customers and team members wanted more ways to celebrate the day.
What About Other Supermarkets?
If you’re wondering about Coles, they’re keeping it business as usual. They’ll have their summer party stuff available all through January – perfect for everything from cricket matches to Australia Day barbies!
The Bigger Picture
While this might seem like just another retail story, it’s actually part of a bigger conversation. Some local councils, like Geelong, are also jumping back on the Australia Day bandwagon after previously stepping away.
Thinking of celebrating? Woolies wants you to know they’re all about “reflect, respect and celebrate” – in line with the National Australia Day Council’s theme. And yes, their staff can join in the celebrations too!
What do you think about Woolies’ decision? Are you planning to grab some Aussie Day merch this year?
