A drunk and disorderly Australian couple’s aeroplane antics have landed them in hot water.
The 45-year-old man and 53-year-old woman were on a flight from Hobart to Sydney on December 29 when their alleged bad behaviour caught the attention of the crew.
Things escalated quickly, and the Australian Federal Police were waiting to greet them when the plane touched down.
What Happened on the Flight?
The couple is accused of being intoxicated and drinking their own booze on the flight, which is a big no-no.
But that’s not all – the woman is also alleged to have grabbed and shaken another passenger while exiting the plane’s toilet.
Not exactly the kind of behaviour you want to see at 30,000 feet!
The Charges
Both the man and the woman have been charged with failing to comply with safety instructions from the cabin crew and consuming alcohol that wasn’t provided by the airline.
Each of these charges comes with a maximum fine of $13,750. The woman is also facing an assault charge, which could land her in prison for up to two years.
A Warning to Travellers
The Australian Federal Police are cracking down on bad behaviour at airports, especially during the holiday season.
Last year, they responded to over 400 incidents involving drunk people at major airports. AFP Sergeant Luke Stockwell has a clear message for travellers: “Be mindful of your behaviour at airports, or you might just start the new year with a hefty fine or worse, behind bars.”
He’s right – bad behaviour at airports isn’t just rude, it’s also a safety risk that can lead to more serious problems.
Stay Safe, Stay Respectful
So, the next time you’re flying, remember to keep your cool and respect your fellow travellers and airline staff.
It’s just common sense, and it could save you a whole lot of trouble. With increased patrols at airports during the holidays, it’s more important than ever to be on your best behaviour.
Let’s all do our part to make flying a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone!
