A devastating house fire in Tasmania has left a community in shock after an infant died and several others were seriously injured.
The blaze broke out in a home on Benboyd Circle in Rokeby, Hobart, on Sunday morning, with emergency services rushing to the scene around 9am.
The Scene of the Fire: Witnesses Describe Chaos
When police and firefighters from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one woman telling ABC News that she saw “flames everywhere” and “lots of smoke”.
Neighbors rushed to help, with one man using a fire extinguisher to try and put out the flames, smashing windows to rescue children trapped inside.
The Aftermath: Injuries and Fatalities
Tragically, an infant was found deceased in the residence. Another child and an adult were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.
Three other children were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The community is still trying to come to terms with the tragedy, with many left shaken by the events.
Investigation Underway
The Tasmania Fire Service will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Police will also prepare a report for the coroner, as the community waits for answers.
