A horrific incident has shaken the community in Melbourne’s south-east, where a father and son were fatally stabbed at a child’s first birthday party on Thursday night.
The victims, Karl Gruber-Terrick, 23, and his 54-year-old father, Karl, were tragically killed in a brawl that broke out at the celebration.
What Happened That Night?
According to witnesses, a loud altercation was heard inside the Clyde North home around 9:30 pm, prompting an emergency services response.
About 20 people had gathered to celebrate the toddler’s birthday, but the night took a devastating turn when an argument escalated into a violent fight.
The brawl spilled out onto Observatory Street, where the father and son were stabbed.
A Community in Mourning
Paramedics rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, they were unable to save the lives of the two men. The community is now coming together to pay tribute to the victims, with many taking to social media to express their condolences.
The younger Karl was a beloved member of the Fitzroy Stars Football Club, and the club has posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, which has garnered over 600 reactions and countless comments from grieving friends and family.
Tributes Pour In
The Fitzroy Stars Football & Netball Club said, “We are grieving the sudden loss of one of our much-loved playing members who was a true gentleman at our club, wore his heart on his sleeve, and let his footy do the talking.”
A close friend, James O’Dwyer, also posted a touching tribute, saying, “You were my brother, my rock, and someone I could always rely on. I will miss you Karl, and I pray that I will see you again in Heaven.”

The incident has left the community in shock, and homicide detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
