A 47-year-old man, believed to be a person of interest in the near-fatal shooting of a Gold Coast woman, has been arrested in Victoria on unrelated weapons charges.
The arrest was made on January 12, just four days after the shocking incident that left 33-year-old Linley Anyos fighting for her life.
What Happened on the Day of the Shooting?
Linley Anyos was shot in the back with a double-barrel shotgun while sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle at a Tallebudgera address.
She had attended the location with a group of people to help an associate move house. The shotgun was later found in nearby bushland, and police are still investigating whether the discharge was accidental.
Person of Interest Arrested in Victoria
The man, who police believe is a person of interest in the shooting, allegedly left the scene after the incident and drove interstate.
He was arrested in Victoria on charges including assault, assault with a weapon, and failing to render assistance after an accident. The man has been charged with several offences and has faced court, but did not apply for bail.
Investigation Ongoing
Gold Coast detectives traveled to Victoria to speak with the man and conduct further inquiries with other witnesses.
Detective Inspector Mark Mooney confirmed that the man is the sole person of interest in the shooting and that investigations are still ongoing.
“We’ll let the matters take place in Victoria and we’ll work out what sort of time frame we have,” he said.
Victim’s Condition Stable, But Injuries Will Be Life-Altering
Linley Anyos is currently in a stable condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital, but her injuries will have a lasting impact on her life.
Detective Inspector Mooney said that her injuries are “life altering” and that she may not even remember the shooting. “It will affect her for the rest of her life.
She’ll have ongoing treatment … but it shows the courage and the strength of her that she’s been able to get through the injuries and come out the other side,” he said.
What’s Next?
The man will return to the Magistrates’ Court later this month on the Victorian charges.
Police are still working to piece together the events surrounding the shooting and will be speaking with Linley Anyos as soon as possible to gather more information.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
