A devastating incident has shaken the community of Bunbury, Western Australia, after a 5-year-old boy named Sammy lost his life in a tragic accident involving a parking meter.
The young boy was fatally injured on January 15 outside the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre, and his family is now coming to terms with the unimaginable loss.
What Happened?
According to reports, paramedics were called to the scene on Arthur St in Bunbury around 10:30 am after Sammy was seriously injured.
He was rushed to Bunbury Hospital and later flown to Perth’s Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
Unfortunately, Sammy passed away two days later, leaving his family and the community in shock.
Tributes Pour In for Sammy and His Family
Sammy’s family has released a statement, thanking everyone for their support and acknowledging the love and care shown to their son during his final days.
“We are so grateful for the support that we have received from family, friends and the general public,” they said.
The family described Sammy as a boy who “brought so much joy” with his “cheeky, playful nature” and said he “impacted everyone he met.”
Community Rallies Around the Family
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Sammy’s family during this difficult time.
Over $21,000 has been raised so far, with the community coming together to help ease the financial burden on the family.
The campaign organizer said, “No family should have to face such heartbreak while also worrying about financial burdens.
Let’s come together as a community and show this family they are not alone.”
Investigation Underway
WorkSafe WA is currently investigating the incident, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
The City of Bunbury has also confirmed that the museum will be closed until Wednesday as a sign of respect for Sammy and his family.
A City in Mourning
The City of Bunbury chief executive, Alan Ferris, told the ABC that the city would work closely with authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The community is still coming to terms with the tragedy, and the city has asked everyone to “take care and look out for each other” during this difficult time.
