Imagine driving on the beach, feeling carefree and enjoying the sun, when suddenly your car gets stuck in the sand.
This is exactly what happened to Sydney man Mohammed on Monday at Melbourne’s Elwood Beach.
He was driving a rented $89,000 Nissan Patrol when his back wheels became bogged down by the rising tide, leaving him badly stuck.
A Bad Decision with Expensive Consequences
Mohammed had driven onto the sand, thinking it would be a nice spot to relax with his mates. However, things took a turn for the worse when the sand became too soft, and he couldn’t get his car out.
“I drove on the sand, then it got a bit soft. I reversed it a bit,” Mohammed explained to Sunrise reporter Andrew McCormack. “Then it was high tide, and it got stuck.”
The Rescue Efforts
The local council had to bring in a small beach patrol vehicle to rescue the stuck car.
Meanwhile, Mohammed took the situation lightly, even going for a swim and walking to find a coffee while police watched on.
Witnesses claimed that a 4WD was doing doughnuts on the sand earlier that morning, but it’s unclear if it was Mohammed’s car.
The Aftermath
Mohammed’s rental car suffered some water damage to the interior, and he will likely face a fine from the council.
Despite the chaos, Mohammed remained calm and even listened to music while waiting for help to arrive. The car was eventually pulled out of the sand, but not before the water had risen significantly, lapping around the back tires.
This incident serves as a reminder to be careful when driving on the beach and to respect the power of the tide. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, it’s essential to prioritize your safety and the safety of others when enjoying the beach.
