A dramatic 100km police chase through Melbourne’s western suburbs came to a crashing halt on a residential street in Truganina, with seven teenagers arrested and several weapons found in the vehicles.
The Chase Unfolds
It all started when police spotted a suspected stolen car speeding through Wyndham Vale just after 11pm on Tuesday.
The police chopper and ground units gave chase, following the vehicle through Werribee, Tarneit, and Point Cook, before it crossed the West Gate Bridge towards Melbourne.
The car then turned back towards the western suburbs, with the pursuit finally ending on Wisdom Avenue in Truganina.
Crash and Arrests
The alleged getaway car crashed into a tree, but miraculously, none of the seven teenagers inside were hurt.
Five were arrested at the scene, while the other two attempted to flee on foot but were caught after being tracked by the police Air Wing.
Several weapons were found in both vehicles, which were allegedly stolen during aggravated burglaries in Tarneit.
A Close Call for Local Resident
The incident unfolded outside the home of Mehraj Mohammed Abdul, who was shaken by the events. “I was asleep when I heard a big boom,” he said.
“I didn’t see the two who allegedly fled, but I saw the five people coming out of the car and being put in handcuffs.”
Abdul’s brother’s car was damaged in the crash, and he was relieved that no one was seriously hurt.
“If the car had veered to the left, it would have smashed into my bedroom,” he said. “Luckily, we’re all safe, that’s what I’m feeling at the moment.”
The Investigation Continues
The seven teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, will be questioned by police over the incident.
The alleged stolen cars were taken during aggravated burglaries in Tarneit, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the chase.
