The wait for justice is finally over for the family and friends of Toyah Cordingley, a young woman who was brutally murdered on a isolated beach in Queensland.
The trial of the man accused of her murder, Rajwinder Singh, is set to begin today in the Supreme Court of Queensland in Cairns.
A Tragic Discovery
Toyah, a 24-year-old pharmacy worker, was found dead on October 21, 2018, at Wangetti Beach, north of Cairns.
Her body was discovered half-buried in sand dunes, about 800m from her car, which was parked in a camping ground.
Her dog was found unharmed and tied to a tree, leaving many questions about what happened to Toyah.
A Long and Difficult Investigation
The investigation into Toyah’s murder was lengthy and challenging, with police finally charging Rajwinder Singh, a nurse from Innisfail, with her murder in March 2023.
Singh is accused of fatally stabbing Toyah during a “personal and intimate attack”. The community was shocked by the brutal nature of the crime, and many are eager to see justice served.
A Beloved Member of the Community
Toyah was a gentle, humble, and loving person, known and loved by many in her hometown.
Her family and friends have been waiting for six long years for justice, and today marks an important step towards closure.
As the trial begins, the community will be watching closely, hoping for a verdict that will bring some measure of peace to those who loved Toyah.
