A 16-year-old boy has been bitten by a shark while surfing off Cabarita Beach on the NSW far north coast.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, and the boy was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital with injuries to his hand, arm, and right leg.
Surfers Rush to Help
Nearby surfers quickly came to the boy’s aid, applying a tourniquet before carrying him to the beach car park.
Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Shark Attack Caught on Camera
It’s believed the shark may have initially been targeting a seal before turning on the boy.
The incident was caught on camera, with terrifying footage emerging of the attack.
Investigation Underway
Emergency services were called to the beach around 3.45pm on Sunday, and an investigation is now underway into the incident.
The shark attack is a shocking reminder of the dangers that exist in Australian waters.
