Sydney’s inner suburbs witnessed a chaotic scene on Sunday morning when a police pursuit ended in a dramatic crash, leaving six teenagers arrested and four in hospital.
The drama unfolded when officers attempted to pull over a stolen Mazda 3 on Erskineville Road, Erskineville, just after midnight.
However, the driver allegedly failed to stop, and a high-speed chase ensued.
Crash and Arrests
The pursuit finally came to an end when the car crashed into a pole on Botany Rd, Mascot.
All six teenagers – five aged 14 and one aged 15 – fled the scene, but were quickly caught by police with the assistance of a helicopter.
Two of the teens were released from hospital on Sunday and taken to Mascot Police Station, where they were each charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without consent of the owner. They will appear before a children’s court on August 4.
The other four teens remain in hospital under police guard, while the 14-year-old alleged driver was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
The stolen hatchback has been searched, and a balaclava, gloves, and mobile phones were found inside. These items will be examined further as part of the investigation.
The car had initially been reported stolen between Friday and Saturday, and police are working to piece together the events leading up to the dramatic chase.
