Deborah Knight, a seasoned journalist and broadcaster, has reportedly quit her gig with Nine radio to shift her focus back to television.
After over five years with the network, Knight is leaving behind her daily radio show to pursue bigger things on the small screen.
A Brief History of Deborah Knight’s Time at 2GB
Knight first joined 2GB in early 2020 to host 2GB Afternoons, replacing Steve Price. She took on the role after being axed as a host of Nine’s breakfast show Today.
After four years, she was dropped from Afternoons and instead took on a new gig hosting Money News.
Money News, which “plays a key role dissecting the pressures facing small business and household budgets,” according to Greg Byrnes, former head of content and current 2GB station manager and national content manager at Nine Radio, runs Monday to Thursday across 2GB, 3AW, 4BC, and 6PR, from 7-8pm.
The Impact of Deborah Knight’s Departure on 2GB
Knight’s departure could have significant implications for the station’s gender pay gap, which is already high at 51.1% according to the most recent WGEA data.
As one of 2GB’s few female voices and one of only 31 female employees (out of 92 total), her leaving will be felt.
What’s Next for Deborah Knight?
Several reports, including from The Australian, suggest Knight will be solely focused on television again, and she is favoured to host Nine’s daytime news bulletin.
One report suggests there are several well-known names being trialled for the permanent hosting role. Nine declined to comment on the reports.
Knight is currently the host of Nine’s A Current Affair on weekends, and it seems she’s setting her sights on even bigger things.
