Heads up, peanut butter fans – if you’ve picked up a jar of Coles Smooth or Crunchy Peanut Butter recently, you’ll want to check your pantry ASAP!
Two Coles Peanut Butters Recalled Nationwide
Coles has announced a national recall of its 1kg Smooth and Crunchy Peanut Butter jars after discovering they may be contaminated with a harmful toxin called aflatoxin.
These jars were sold in stores between May and June of this year and have a best before date of 5 February 2027.
What Is Aflatoxin and Why It’s Dangerous
Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring toxin that can affect crops like peanuts and corn.
While it’s not something you’d normally notice in food, it can be harmful if eaten—and over time, it has been linked to a greater risk of liver damage or even liver cancer.
Food Standards Australia is warning customers not to eat the affected peanut butter under any circumstances.
What Should You Do If You Have This Peanut Butter?
If you’ve got one of those jars in your kitchen, don’t use it. Just take it back to any Coles supermarket for a full refund—no receipt needed. If you ordered online, you can get in touch with Coles’ Online Customer Care team instead.
Worried about your health? It’s always a good idea to check in with your doctor if you think you might’ve consumed something unsafe.
Coles Apologizes to Shoppers
Coles has said sorry to customers for the inconvenience and is working to make sure the issue doesn’t happen again.
Stay safe, and be sure to share this with anyone you know who might’ve picked up a jar!
