A motorbike rider is in a critical condition following a collision with a car on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne.
The accident occurred at 12:47 pm on Saturday near the Wellington Road exit in Wheelers Hill, and police say the rider was travelling with another motorcycle at the time of the crash.
The rider was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the second rider was not injured and has been arrested by police in connection with the incident.
Delays Expected on Monash Freeway
The crash has closed several lanes, causing significant delays, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as Ferntree Gully Road, Springvale Road, and Wellington Road to re-enter the freeway.
Drivers heading towards the city should consider leaving the freeway at Police Road to use the Princes Highway and Blackburn Road.
Only one lane is open in each direction on the Monash Freeway between Wellington and Springvale roads.
Investigation Ongoing
The driver of the car involved in the collision stopped at the scene, and Victoria Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are attending the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and the second rider is expected to be interviewed in relation to the accident.
