A tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW, resulting in the death of a motorbike rider in his 20s.
The incident began when police officers attempted to stop a motorbike on King St in Hamilton around 7:30 pm, as it did not have number plates.
The rider failed to stop, and a pursuit began, continuing south on the Pacific Hwy at Charlestown.
Tragically, the rider came off his bike and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but he died at the scene.
Investigation Underway
A crime scene has been established, and a critical incident team from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner, and the man’s identity is yet to be formally confirmed.
