A driver has lost his life in a horror crash along a tree-lined road in southeast Victoria.
The single-vehicle accident occurred on Tomahawk Creek Rd at Simpson, a dairy town about 45 minutes inland from Victoria’s Twelve Apostles, around 3:40 am on Sunday.
The road, largely unsealed and surrounded by paddocks and dense bushland, witnessed the car crash into “several trees”, according to Victoria Police.
Passenger Seriously Injured
The driver died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
Meanwhile, a man in the passenger seat was found seriously injured when emergency services arrived.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Road Toll Rises
This latest tragedy brings the total number of lives lost on Victorian roads this year to 174, a grim tally that’s up by 19 since this time last year.
