A devastating head-on collision on the Capricornia Highway in Queensland has left four people dead, including two young children, and two others fighting for their lives.
The tragic accident occurred just before 11am on Sunday, when a Holden Commodore and a Toyota Hilux ute collided near Blackwater, west of Rockhampton.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, four people were pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to police, the Holden Commodore was carrying a 28-year-old man, a 6-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl, and a 32-year-old man, all of whom died in the crash.
The two men inside the ute, aged 28 and 27, sustained serious chest and abdominal injuries.
One was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the other was flown to Brisbane for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The Capricorn Highway remains closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed into the evening, police said.
Investigations are ongoing, but due to the complexity of the incident, no further information is available at this time.
