Ellen DeGeneres has finally confirmed what many suspected – she left the US because of President Trump.
In a candid new interview, the comedian and presenter, 67, revealed that she and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, have no intention of returning to the US.
The couple currently resides in the Cotswolds, and Ellen spoke about the huge life changes they’ve made during a conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon at the Everyman theatre in Cheltenham.
A New Life in the UK
Ellen expressed her love for the UK, stating that it’s “absolutely beautiful” and that they’re “just not used to seeing this kind of beauty.”
She added, “The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”
Ellen also raved about the cleanliness of the UK, saying, “It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”
The couple moved to the UK in November, and Ellen shared that they’re enjoying their new life, with Portia flying her horses over and Ellen having chickens and even sheep for a brief period.
Fears for Same-Sex Marriage in the US
Ellen also spoke about the increasing threats to same-sex marriage in the US, revealing that the Baptist Church is trying to reverse gay marriage.
She said, “They’re trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it.”
Ellen and Portia are considering tying the knot again in the UK, given the uncertainty surrounding their marriage in the US.
