Another boy, 14, was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a critical condition with a “severed arm”, according to authorities.
Paramedics responded to reports of a jet ski crash and two people in the water at Tom Uglys Bridge, where witnesses described a chaotic scene.
Witnesses Describe Chaos
Danielle and Anna, who were sitting on a nearby boat ramp, saw a person yelling for help and called the ambulance.
“Two ambulance officers ended up swimming out to get him and brought him back,” Danielle said. “As they were bringing him back, he didn’t look conscious.”
Another witness, Alexandra Farrugia, described seeing a body floating near the bridge, while Daniel said the scene was “pretty crazy” with police racing down and boats out searching for somebody in the water.
Police Investigation Underway
Sutherland Shire Police Area Command Inspector Tim Carter said the boys were riding on the same jet ski at the time of the collision.
Inspector Carter praised the heroic actions of police officers who quickly entered the water to remove the boys to safety.
The investigation is ongoing, with a crime scene set up to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
