A motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic incident on Sydney’s M4 motorway on Wednesday morning.
The motorcyclist was heading east on the M4 near Church Street in Parramatta when his bike collided with a white sedan, throwing him onto the road just before 2am.
In a shocking turn of events, a marked police vehicle from the Cumberland Police Area Command then struck the motorcyclist.
The police vehicle was not on urgent duty and did not have its lights or sirens activated at the time of the incident.
Police immediately commenced CPR until paramedics arrived and took the man to Westmead Hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be revived.
Investigation Underway
The motorway was closed eastbound between Cumberland Highway and Burnett Street after the incident, and investigators remain on site.
Due to the nature of the crash, there is no forecast of when the road will reopen, according to NSW Police.
The driver of the sedan and a male senior constable were taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.
NSW Police have declared a critical incident, and the investigation will be subject to an independent review overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
