Meet Australia’s newest multi-millionaire: a Brisbane grandfather who’s about to change the lives of his loved ones forever!
The Wynnum retiree won the whopping $31,140,405.47 prize in Thursday night’s Powerball draw, all thanks to his Marked PowerHit entry purchased on The Lott website.
When an official from The Lott contacted him with the life-changing news, he was left speechless.
“Oh, my goodness. Words can’t explain how I’m feeling right now,” he exclaimed.
The grandfather’s win will set up his kids and grandkids for life, and he’s looking forward to helping others.
“I’m retired myself. I’ve lived a happy life, and I’ve been lucky enough to tick most things off my bucket list, so this will be used more for helping others.”
A Consistent Winner
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1523 were 2, 25, 6, 4, 31, 34, and 19, with the all-important Powerball number being 20.
The retiree has been playing with the same numbers for years, usually opting for Saturday Gold Lotto, but sometimes trying his luck with Powerball when the jackpot is higher.
And it’s not just luck; he also bought a Set for Life ticket, hoping to win big. “It’s funny because I also bought a Set for Life ticket and thought, ‘Wow, it’d be nice to get that’, but this is even better.”
A Quiet Day Ahead
After receiving the news, the grandfather plans to take a quiet day to let reality set in. “You’ve made my day. Now, I’m going to have a quiet day letting reality set in.”
The Queensland retiree is the 242nd division one Lotto winner across Australia this year, and the jackpot returns to $4 million for next Thursday’s Powerball draw.
The Search Continues for Another Winner
Meanwhile, the search is still on for the mystery winner of the $100 million Powerball jackpot from June 12, purchased from Bondi Junction Newsagency and Internet Cafe in Sydney’s east.
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart remains hopeful that the $100 million prize will be claimed.
“Given the enormity of this prize, we’re very eager for this mystery player… to discover and, more importantly, start enjoying their good fortune.”
