TURNBERRY, SCOTLAND – Trump Attacks London Mayor, Praises UK Prime Minister During Scotland Visit During a press conference at his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland, US President Donald Trump launched a verbal attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, labeling him a “nasty person” who has “done a terrible job.”
The president made these remarks while sitting beside UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who intervened, calling Khan “a friend of mine.”
Trump, who is on a four-day informal summer visit to Scotland, stated that he is not a fan of the mayor, but would “certainly” visit London.
In response, a mayoral spokesperson expressed delight at the president’s interest in visiting the city, suggesting that Trump would see how diversity makes London “stronger, not weaker; richer, not poorer.”
The spokesperson also highlighted the record number of Americans applying for British citizenship under Trump’s presidency.
Trump has previously clashed with Mayor Khan, calling him a “stone cold loser” in 2019.
The mayor has been re-elected for a third term in 2024.
The US president has also praised UK political figures, including Sir Keir and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, whom he described as “great men.”
During the press conference, Trump predicted the outcome of the next UK election, stating that he likes both Sir Keir and Farage.
He also commented on the UK government’s handling of immigration, suggesting that it is now “bigger than ever before.”
The president’s visit to Scotland is considered a private trip, with the main purpose being to visit his two golf courses in Aberdeenshire and South Ayrshire.
Trump will be hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle during his state visit to the UK later this year.
The public is encouraged to stay updated on the latest developments regarding the president’s visit and the UK-US relations.
