CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA – Senator Hanson Defends Climate Stance Amid Criticism from Younger Colleague Senaor Walker had accused Senator Hanson of “completely disregarding” the next generation and farmers by calling for the abandonment of the net zero target.
The 21-year-old senator stated that without the target, there would be no Australian farmers, businesses, or industries to support the country.
However, Senator Hanson fired back, accusing Senator Walker of being a hypocrite and lacking understanding of what net zero means.
In an interview with Sky News, Senator Hanson claimed that Senator Walker grew up on a farm that uses diesel and petroleum products, and therefore, she doesn’t truly understand the implications of net zero.
Senator Hanson also criticized Senator Walker for not knowing the facts and figures, adding that she shouldn’t be telling her what she knows or doesn’t know when she has been dealing with the issue for many years.
Earlier, Senator Hanson challenged Coalition opponents of net zero to stand up and support her motion, calling them “gutless” and “cowards” for not backing her proposal.
The motion came amid a push by Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce to abandon Australia’s carbon-neutral target by 2050.
