NEW YORK, NEW YORK – President Trump is reportedly considering granting a pardon to Sean “Diddy” Combs, the hip-hop mogul, ahead of his sentencing in October, according to sources within the administration.
This development comes as Combs’ legal team filed a new bail package proposal, arguing that most people convicted under the federal Mann Act are released from jail pending their sentencing.
Combs was acquitted earlier this month of sex trafficking and racketeering charges but convicted on prostitution-related offenses, including two counts of violating the Mann Act.
He is facing a maximum of 20 years in prison.
An administration source stated that Trump is “seriously” weighing a pardon for Combs, particularly if Judge Arun Subramanian rules in favor of the bail petition.
Sources close to the matter have revealed that Trump’s willingness to consider a pardon stems from his belief that Combs, like himself, has been unfairly targeted by federal authorities.
The two have a history of running in the same social circles in New York City, with Trump even describing Combs as a “good friend” in a 2012 episode of “The Apprentice.”
If Combs is granted bail, Trump will reportedly wait to decide on a pardon until his sentencing.
However, if the judge denies bail, a decision will be made immediately.
Trump first hinted at the possibility of pardoning Combs in May, stating that he would consider the facts if he believed someone was mistreated.
Combs’ legal team has yet to officially request a pardon from Trump, but sources suggest that the president is “more than open” to the idea.
As the October sentencing approaches, authorities will be closely watching the developments in this case.
