Sydney, Australia – Australian television star Magda Szubanski will be inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame, marking a career milestone after nearly 40 years in the industry.
Szubanski, known for her iconic character Sharon Strzelecki in the popular Australian sitcom Kath and Kim, will become the fifth woman to receive the honor, following Rebecca Gibney’s induction last year.
The beloved comedian and actress has made a significant impact on Australian television culture, winning seven Logies and twice being named the Most Popular Person on Television.
Her induction comes months after she revealed her diagnosis of stage 4 blood cancer.
Szubanski got her start in boundary-pushing sketch shows, including The D-Generation, Fast Forward, Full Frontal, and Big Girl’s Blouse.
Her role as Sharon Strzelecki remains one of her most enduring and well-rounded creations, with the character’s melancholy resonating with audiences.
Beyond television, Szubanski has had a successful film career, teaming up with director George Miller for projects such as Babe, Happy Feet, and Happy Feet Two.
She has also been an influential figure for her LGBTQIA+ advocacy, and her award-winning memoir, Reckoning, tackles the story of her father’s life as a Polish assassin.
The Logies Hall of Fame inductee is chosen by a panel of independent industry experts, who assess submissions based on criteria such as contribution to Australian television culture, key achievements, past awards, and continued longevity and relevance.
