BORDERTOWN, SOUTH AUSTRALIA – A tragic incident has shaken the small town of Bordertown, South Australia, where police found the bodies of a man and a woman in their home on Sunday night.
According to Assistant Commissioner Catherine Hilliard, the man took his own life after murdering his partner.
The couple had children together, but they were not present at the time of the incident.
Police attended the house for a welfare check after a relative raised concerns.
Limestone Coast detectives, SA Police’s Forensic Response Section, and the Major Crime Investigation Branch are all involved in the investigation.
A post-mortem examination on the woman’s body is scheduled for tomorrow.
Police will prepare a report for the state coroner.
The community is in shock, with neighbor Merilyn Newman saying she was stunned that such an incident could occur in Bordertown.
“It doesn’t happen very often – it’s usually in Sydney or Melbourne,” she said.
Tatiara Mayor Liz Goossens expressed condolences on behalf of the community, adding that the town would come together to support those affected.
