ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA – A customer’s disappointing experience at a Coffee Club cafe in Adelaide has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling the price of a “sad-looking” toastie “a huge rip-off.”
The customer, who shared photos of his Reuben toastie on Reddit, was charged $20.90 for a sandwich that appeared to have a stingy amount of pastrami and cheese, accompanied by a spoonful of sauerkraut and mayonnaise on barely toasted bread.
The customer’s wife’s ham, cheese, and tomato toastie, priced at $15.90, looked similarly unappetizing.
Social media users were quick to express their disbelief at the prices, with one commenter jokingly suggesting the customer should “call the police” because they had been “robbed.”
Many urged the customer to consider supporting local cafes instead of chain franchises.
In response to the backlash, a Coffee Club spokesman said the company was “disappointed to hear of the experience” and was taking the matter seriously, with a review already underway to address the issue.
Authorities have not been involved in the matter, and no further action is expected.
Anyone with similar experiences at Coffee Club or other establishments is encouraged to share their stories and photos, helping to promote transparency and accountability in the service industry.
