MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Three-time World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss has sustained multiple injuries following a riding incident on Sunday, which left him with seven fractured ribs, a punctured lung, and a broken collarbone.
Baylaiss, an Australian motorcycle racing legend, announced the news on his Instagram account, stating: “Went for a spin in the meat wagon (ambulance) yesterday.
Thanks to the people who spotted me having a sleep on the track.
[I’ve injured] seven ribs, punctured lung and collarbone, and just beat up.”
This latest incident marks Bayliss’ second major injury in recent months.
In June, he broke his left ankle, forcing him to take a break from riding until July 21.
The exact circumstances surrounding this latest incident remain unclear, but it is known that Bayliss had been riding dirt bikes over the weekend.
Baylaiss’ storied career in World Superbikes spanned multiple seasons, including full-time stints from 2000 to 2002 and 2006 to 2008, during which he claimed three world titles.
He has also competed in MotoGP and the Australian Superbike Championship.
Bayliss’ son, Olly Bayliss, currently competes in World Supersport and has made appearances in British Supersport.
